Coates & Scarry are excited to present Silt and Stone, a solo exhibition of mixed media paintings by contemporary artist Joe Warrior-Walker. This new series features captivating works on canvas and paper, inspired by the landscapes of Bristol and its surrounding regions, where Warrior-Walker lives and works. His abstract compositions reflect the intricate relationships between the area’s geology, river systems, and urban environment.
Warrior-Walker’s creative process is deeply archaeological, using a palimpsestic approach to build layers over time. His intuitive mark-making reveals paintings that emerge slowly through the application and excavation of materials like oil paint, soft pastels, and raw pigments. The interplay between these mediums creates a dynamic fusion of translucency, opacity, texture, and detailed line work.
