COATES & SCARRY

Volta Basel 2018

We are returning to VOLTA BASEL with a duo presentation of watercolours by Armando Mariño and a selection of charcoal and oils by Emma Vidal.

Armando Mariño, born in Cuba and based in New York, paints with an intense palette using watercolours on paper. His figurative subjects are depicted as they journey through forests, lakes and mountains. They connect with their rural surroundings on a spiritual level that is informed from their diverse experiences.

Emma Vidal, born in Paris based in St Louis uses charcoal and oils to create scenes of dystopian futures. Children orphaned by catastrophic events roam wildly in abandoned buildings and woods. They surround themselves with their acquired loot and dress in theatrical camouflage in an attempt to establish a new world order.
